Emotional Freedom Technique

A disruption in the Energy system is the cause of all negative emotions

What Is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), also called Tapping, is part of Energy Psychology, and is based on the practice of Chinese acupuncture. Tapping is acupuncture without needlesand quick results can be achieved by tapping end points of the energy lines called Meridians.

What is Tapping?  Well, it’s literally tapping on the end points of the energy Meridian lines in our body with the fingertips.  It’s a non-invasive ‘acupuncture’.  By tapping at the end points of the Meridians (or energy hot spots) mostly around our face, collarbone, under the arm, and head, we send vibrations along the lines, which go through respective organs.  So, for instance, if we say something makes us ‘sick to the stomach’, merely by tapping on that end point under the eye, ‘the sick to the stomach’ feeling should dissipate.

How To Tap?

Look at the diagram below Emotional Energy Centres of the Body where it is thought that any disruptions in our energy system are carried in certain parts of the body.

Do you carry pain in your body that has no logical reason?  Here’s a good one.  ‘S/he’s a pain in the neck!’ The body is a metaphor for our thoughts so in this case, you might find that you have a constant neck or shoulder ache as a result of someone irritating you.

Based on Chinese medicine, tapping on the Meridian points allows the body’s energy to flow, therefore restoring balance to the body’s energy.  This in turn can relieve symptoms a negative experience or emotion may have caused.  An imbalance in the energy flow (Chi) is believed to contribute to dis-ease, disease or sickness.
Tapping is also believed to send signals to the part of the brain that controls stress, and reduces the stress or negative emotion, ultimately restoring balance to the disrupted energy system.

Tapping is one of my favourite tools for overcoming anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, self-doubt, limiting beliefs.  What types of ‘tapping’ are there?

Green Leaves

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) - usually involves talking whilst tapping a set sequence starting with the side of the hand, then beginning of the eyebrow, side of eye (end of eyebrow), under eye, under nose, under bottom lip, collar bone (where we’d knot a tie), under the armpit (a hand’s width down) and top of the head.  There are also tapping points in the hands/fingers but usually just the above points will get good results. Thought Field Therapy (TFT) - is just that.  The issue doesn’t have to be discussed.  For instance, you might feel guilt or shame but there’s no need to say why.  We would then do a short cut version of tapping, which could also involve the hands and fingers. So for anger we’d tap the inside side of the tiny finger and then the collar bone together with a 9Gamut series (which is bizarre) and involves eye movement, humming and counting, then a repetition of the tiny finger and then the collarbone.  More info is here  (http://www.rogercallahan.com www.tfttapping.com ) and of course, you can book your free 15 minutes consultation with me to discuss whether we can work on your issue.

Picture Tapping Technique (PTT) – combines the power of EFT with the power of the imagination.  It doesn’t replace EFT but can be less traumatic for the individual. For instance, when a child or other has difficulty verbalising an issue, they are encouraged to draw sequential pictures of their issue and using EFT on the body, describes the picture.  Very often, these pictures are abstract so it’s not easy to discern what has been drawn and in turn, keeps the individual ‘safe’ until they are ready to talk, or not.  It really doesn’t matter.  More info is here (https://www.picturetapping.com).
